Cold water therapy has been know in many ancient civilizations. The Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian civilizations have all used this technique to stay young and healthy. In India this technique is know as Ishnaan and I got knowledge of this practice from Yogi Bhajan.Yogi Bhajan a master of Kundalini Yoga said that you should take a cold shower every morning to stay young and healthy. Actually he said that Ishnaan was a complete science and that showering different parts of your body would bring out different effects both physically and mentally.
Using ishnaan to relieve back pain can be done as this technique helps to repair the aching and irritated tissues of the back. However, proceed gradually if you haven’t tried this technique before. It can be a bit painful if you have sciatica as tissues can contract and in the process pinching nerves when they are subjected to cold. In cases of pinched nerves a stretching routine is recommended. If you have high blood pressure then start slowly as well. You shouldn’t practice cold water therapy if:You are pregnantDuring menstruationHave a feverHave rheumatismHave a heart diseaseHow to do cold water therapy? The correct way to do cold water therapy is to first massage your entire body with almond oil. This is to get the circulation going and to raise the body temperature. Almond oil is also very good for your body and it makes your skin healthy. Then get in the shower with a pair of shorts on. This is to protect the calcium magnesium balance in the body. Turn on the coldest water you can get and start by showering your outer limbs first, hands, arms, and feet. Massage the areas that the water hits. Then let the water hit the chest and shout out loud if you want but stay in the water. At first the water will feel cold and the water is actually challenging your body and its systems, but then at one point the coldness will disappear and the water will feel warm. This is what you have been waiting for. At this point all the capillaries open up to face the coldness of the water. When this happens the cells dump all their waste products and toxins. Next step is to turn around and let the water hit the back of you and stand put until it doesn’t feel cold. Now shower any part that you might have missed such as your armpits, neck, and throat. Do not shower the top of your head, your genitals and your thighs (that’s why you are wearing shorts). Now when you think that you are done turn off the water and start to massage your body with your hands. Let the body get hot. Then turn on the water again and face the cold water once more. Do this procedure of turning off the water to massage the body and then turning on it again a few times, ideally for 12 – 15 minutes. Now get out of the shower and rub yourself dry with a towel. The objective is to create heat and do this by massaging and rubbing your entire body. Put on warm clothes and wrap a blanket around you. Your body will get very hot and you might actually start to sweat. You do this in order to get the blood to return to the internal organs. The blood will get clean and in the same time rebuild your internal organs. Yogi Bhajan say that when this happens it’s like a crop getting rain. “All the blood that’s in the capillaries will go back to the organs: the kidneys, the liver, the spleen, the lungs – because each part of your body lives on its own blood supply which is regulated by the beat of the heart. So the organs will will get a rich supply of blood like a crop getting a beautiful rain, and that crop grows up. This is how you can balance your health.” Another thing that happens is that the glands need to change their secretion in order to match the newly flushed organs. The glands are called the guardians of health and youth and when they change their secretion youth and health will return. You get the most effect by showering your entire body and focusing your massage on areas which are aching, the back in your case.Yogi Bhajan described what the effects are for showering different body parts. Read below.“If you let the cold water fall just below the lower lip for ten or fifteen minutes, you will be bright and your mind will be very clear.” Use your feet to massage. Don’t use your hands.”“Then stand away from the water and using both hands, massage your entire body and let the body get hot. Then take a cold shower again and massage your body again. Do that for about twelve to fifteen minutes. You should have a friend handy to pull you out. You will be in a totally different space. More: http://www.inspirationalbodies.com
